Artificial Intelligence is a combination of computer science, physiology, and philosophy. AI is a broad topic, consisting of different fields, from machine vision to expert systems. The element that the fields of AI have in common is the creation of machines that can "think".
AI has always been on the pioneering end of computer science. Advanced-level computer languages, as well as computer interfaces and word-processors owe their existence to the research into artificial intelligence. The theory and insights brought about by AI research will set the trend in the future of computing. The products available today are only bits and pieces of what are soon to follow, but they are a movement towards the future of artificial intelligence. The advancements in the quest for artificial intelligence have, and will continue to affect our jobs, our education, and our lives.
This is probably one of the reasons for the compartmentalization of AI into things like Knowledge Based Systems, Neural Networks, and Genetic Algorithms, Gaming, Expert system, Robotics etc. Some of these separate sub topics have been shown to be very useful in solving certain difficult business and industrial problems and consequently funding bodies influence research directions by encouraging work on these more application based areas. This can have a positive effect for business benefit and has lead to some very useful systems that have found their way into the heart of business activity. Business should not lose sight of where AI could go because there are many potential benefits to current and new businesses of future research. Intelligence transport system can be developed by Artificial Intelligence. AI will be used as cheap labor, or perhaps slaves, thus increasing profits for corporations. Self-replicating applications can make deployment easier and less resource-intensive. The idea of robotic domestic workers is still far fetched but companies are making progress even here. Therefore artificial intelligence is boom to the modern society; embedded in a machine not only it makes our life comfortable but will add a totally new dimension in the art of living.
Bottom line: Ethical considerations will be ignored; reform if it happens--will only take place when the economic costs become too high.
